Mario Cavalla ( Torino 1902 - Bordighera 1962 ) Seascape At Sunset. Italy, Limoges, Paguenaud
Artist: Mario Cavalla ( Torino 1902 - Bordighera 1962 )
SUPERB oil on panel by Mario Cavalla depicting a marine at sunset, signed upper right.
Size of painting alone unframed 50x58.5cm and 60x68.5cm including frame.
Painting in good condition, some light surface scratches; delivered in a contemporary frame.
Genuine work guaranteed
This is therefore a very fine post-impressionist work by Mario Cavalla, who here paints a marine, a calm sea at sunset, probably in Italy, but perhaps also on the French Riviera.
His technique is very recognizable, a small, tight brushstroke rich in material, in a most subtle palette where blues and grays dominate, with here in addition some subtle touches of pink and yellow.
Cavalla was an Italian painter born in Turin, renowned for his seascapes, but he also painted landscapes and portraits. He painted mainly on the Italian coast. He also spent a lot of time in France, including one in Limoges, where he took refuge during the war, which is why we find a lot of his work in the Limousin capital. Perhaps he met Jean-Louis Paguenaud when they were both painters in Marines...
His coast is mainly made on the Italian market.
