Pair Of Lamps - Japanese Sake Jars, Glazed Stoneware - Japan, 20th Century
Pair of lamps made on gray-white glazed stoneware sake (tobin) jars, Japan, first half of the 20th century.
Each jar features on several sides calligraphic inscriptions in underglaze black ink, executed with a brush with remarkable gesturality - names of trading houses and merchant districts (Yūkiya, Rokkōmachi) characteristic of commercial production in the Meiji-Taishō era.
Stoneware body with lightly sandblasted ivory glaze, banded neck, squat ovoid shape. Traces of wear and natural patina consistent with original age and use. Entirely new electrical installation by a professional electrician, in compliance with current French standards. Gold-plated brass lampholder. Conical shade in natural linen included.
Sale by unit possible: 500€ each
