Hexagonal Blue And White Porcelain Vase - Japan - Meiji Period - 19th Century
Elegant hexagonal porcelain vase with "Blue and White" decoration, dating from the late Meiji period (circa 1890-1910).
This vase features a rich and balanced naturalistic decoration, featuring peonies in full bloom - a symbol of prosperity and nobility - as well as butterflies, treated with great graphic finesse. The drawing is distinguished by a lively line and deep cobalt-blue gradations characteristic of Japanese export productions from the Seto region.
The upper and lower registers are underlined by intricate friezes of flowering scrolls and stylized lotus flowers, bringing classical structure and great elegance to the whole.
The hexagonal shape, rarer and more sought-after than classic cylindrical forms, offers interesting plays of light on the facets, making it an ideal decorative object for a contemporary setting or high-class lamp mounting.
