Large Louis-philippe Mirror In Gilded Wood - France, Circa 1850–1870
Large Louis-Philippe period mantel mirror in molded and stuccoed wood, gilded with gold leaf over a red ground.
Rounded upper corners and a straight base, the characteristic signature of this French production from the third quarter of the 19th century.
The main molding features a finely incised radiating fluting, punctuated along its edge by a beaded frieze.
The whole piece rests on a wide, smooth plinth.
The original mercury glass with its pinholes unequivocally attests to the piece’s age.
Period parquet flooring made of fir planks assembled at the back.
The gilding, almost entirely intact, reveals the underlying red ground in places, a trace of the traditional fine gold work of 19th-century French gilders, giving the piece a luminous and warm patina.
In good overall condition.
Wear consistent with age and use.
