French Wwi M2 Gas Mask
French gas mask model M2 from the First World War. Typical example, complete with waterproof cotton carrying bag. The front of the bag bears the inspector's stamp "TAILLE ORDINAIRE". The two cellophane eyepieces are fragile and one of them is split, which is common. A fine example having served during the war.
Note -
The M2 gas mask was a French-made mask used by French, British and American forces from April 1916 to August 1918 during the First World War. Produced in large quantities (around 29,300,000 units), it was designed to protect the wearer from at least five hours' exposure to phosgene, a common chemical weapon at the time.
