Kilim Qashqai - Persia. Circa 1900. 300 X 150 Cm
It's always a joy to admire an antique Qashqai, a pure pleasure.
Pure as the radiance of its vegetal hues, its stunning indigo blues tinged with luminosity and depth. Its hand-spun wool and salt-and-pepper bangs. Its small, refined motifs embroidered in continuous lines. On the field, like a constellation of stylized stars standing out from a dark Persian midnight-blue "printed" surface.
Make no mistake, Qashqais are masters of harmony and contrast. Likewise, the organizational balance leaves nothing to chance. It's a masterful score.
These are just some of the characteristics of Qashqai weavings that have made their weavers famous. It's dazzling.
To describe this kilim without leaving room for emotion would be not to understand the piece, not to see it.
You have to spread it out in front of you, circle it repeatedly, feel it and breathe in its vibrations. At least, that's how I do it. No offense to careless AI users. It's not the house style!
Each pattern is adorned with its associated little liseret that gracefully outlines it to bring out each volume. Contrast.
The balance of exclusively vegetal hues provides visual sensations of infinite softness. Length in the mouth for the wine.
I cross never said it, it's beautiful.
Woven wool on wool by a master hand.
Perfect condition.
Circa 1900.
