Vue de Notre-Dame sous la brume, Paris, 1920
Oil on canvas signed Hentong, École de Paris

Charming evocation of the Paris of the Roaring Twenties, this oil on canvas dated 1920 takes us along the quays of the Seine on a morning veiled in mist. In the distance, the majestic silhouette of Notre-Dame delicately emerges from the winter vapors, while the arches of the bridge are reflected in a soft, hushed atmosphere.

The artist, signed Hentong, here delivers a poetic vision of the capital, in the spirit of that École de Paris which, in the early 20th century, celebrated urban landscapes and variations in light. Muted tones, silvery grays and delicate ochres sensitively convey the dampness of cobblestones and the elegant melancholy of the banks of the Seine.

Walkers sketched on the sidewalk, barges moored along the quay and bare trees compose a typically Parisian setting, imbued with a refined nostalgia. The brushstroke remains free and lively, favoring impression and atmosphere over precision of detail, in a tradition inherited from the capital's great painters.

.

A seductive work with its emblematic subject and timeless atmosphere, a testament to the incomparable charm of old Paris in the aftermath of the First World War.

Dimensions with frame: 55 x 45 cm
Dated 1920 and signed lower left.

Very good condition. A decorative and evocative painting that will naturally find its place in a collection devoted to Paris or early 20th-century French painting.
