Tulipwood Marquetry Cabinet In The Louis XVI Style, Late 18th Century

A superb and elegant French Louis XVI tulipwood marquetry cabinet, crafted in the late 18th century (signed by cabinetmaker) and raised on an oak carcass, with a beautifully figured rouge marble top and exceptional geometric parquetry throughout. Rich in detail and refined in proportion, this is a highly decorative and practical antique piece, perfectly suited for a sophisticated living room, dining room, hallway, or refined interior setting.

The cabinet features a striking original tulipwood marquetry façade with intricate chevron and parquetry panels across the three doors and two upper drawers, framed by delicate cross banding and contrasting inlaid borders. The shaped sides continue the decorative marquetry work, while finely cast gilt bronze ormolu mounts accent the corners, escutcheons, and feet, adding classical Louis XVI elegance.

The substantial rouge marble top offers beautiful contrast with warm tones of pink, burgundy, and natural veining, creating both visual richness and functional surface space. The cabinet stands gracefully on tapered legs with ormolu-mounted sabots, while the shaped apron is centred by an elegant gilt bronze decorative mount.

Internally, the cabinet provides excellent storage behind the three cupboard doors, making it both highly practical and visually impressive.

Presented in excellent fully restored condition. The keys are later replacements and not original, but function correctly and suit the piece well.

A beautifully proportioned and highly decorative French antique with timeless appeal.
