Rare Pair Of Art Nouveau Silver-plated Vases By Wmf, Circa 1900
Very beautiful and rare pair of Art Nouveau silver-plated metal vases, signed WMF - Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik - dating from circa 1900.
Each vase features motifs emblematic of the Jugendstil / Art Nouveau style: raised tulips, sinuous stems and stylized foliage. One vase depicts a young girl listening to a shell, while the other shows a young boy holding a fish. These two charming, finely carved allegorical figures add a great deal of character to the ensemble.
One of the vases shows a few dents and deformations, and the silver plating is partially worn. However, the pair still retains much of its original finish, which is rare for pieces of this period. Very difficult to find as a pair, this set is particularly sought-after by collectors.
