Head Of Asclepius, Modern Plaster Cast After The Antique Original, 21st Century
High-quality, finely detailed plaster cast of the head of Asclepius. Based on a fragment of a larger-than-life marble statue: a Roman copy dating from 14-27 AD, based on a Hellenistic original by the sculptor Phyromachos (2nd century BC), discovered at Neapolis (Syracuse, Sicily), in the amphitheatre. The original is in the Syracuse Archaeological Museum, inv. no. 693. Mounted on a modern black iron base.
