Large Sculpture Perseus Victorious By Picault (1833-1915)
Artist: émile Louis Picault (1833-1915)
An important and exquisitely crafted spelter sculpture depicting the mythological hero Perseus, victor over the sea monster after rescuing Andromeda.
The victor is shown in contrapposto, wearing a helmet and carrying his spear.
His facial features are very expressive, and he wears a pendant around his neck.
The sea monster lies dead at his feet.
The chasing is beautifully restored, and the antique patina is reminiscent of an antique bronze. He has retained his original spear.
He rests on an oval, sea-green marble base and bears a brass cartouche entitled "The Victor" by Picault. Signed "Picault" on the rear base.
A powerfully striking mythological sculpture.
Dimensions:
68 cm high.
