Pair Of French Louis XV Style Walnut Fauteuils, Circa 1880

This elegant pair of French carved fauteuils embodies the timeless sophistication of the Louis XV taste, executed in the 19th century with graceful proportions and richly sculpted details. Dating to approximately circa 1870–1890, these armchairs feature finely carved solid walnut frames, displaying the characteristic cabriole legs, flowing serpentine lines, floral carvings, and softly curved silhouette associated with the Louis XV revival period.

The carved apron is delicately ornamented with floral and foliate motifs, while the scrolling arms and shaped seat rails reinforce their refined French character. The warm walnut patina has developed beautifully over time, enhancing the sculptural quality of the wood and emphasizing the depth of the carving.

The chairs are upholstered in a richly decorative coral-orange fabric woven with stylized floral and ribbon motifs in golden tones, likely a later upholstery chosen to complement their refined appearance. Traditional brass nailhead trim frames the upholstery, adding warmth and definition to the silhouette.

Elegant yet comfortable, this pair would work beautifully in a living room, bedroom, library, or sophisticated sitting area, blending effortlessly into both traditional and eclectic interiors. Their graceful form, decorative carving, and generous proportions make them ideal accent chairs while preserving the romantic charm of French decorative arts.
