Chest Of Drawers In Veneered And Inlaid Wood. Piedmont, Louis XIV Period.

Important Piedmontese serpentine-front chest of drawers with three drawers, crafted during the transitional period between the Louis XIV taste and the emerging Louis XV style, characterized by a balance between architectural rigor and the first Rococo influences. The piece stands out for its elegant bombé front and the richness of its marquetry decoration, executed with fine veneers in warm amber tones.

The top is adorned with a refined floral marquetry composition centered on a vase overflowing with flowers, framed by sinuous scrolling foliage and ornamental cartouches. French in inspiration yet reinterpreted through the distinctive Piedmontese sensibility, the decoration demonstrates remarkable craftsmanship through the use of various wood species creating delicate chromatic contrasts.

The three large drawers, also entirely inlaid with floral and arabesque motifs, retain the characteristic arrangement of 18th-century Piedmontese furniture. The curved lines of the front and sides already announce the Rococo taste, while the solid structure and overall restrained composition maintain clear references to the late Baroque tradition of Louis XIV.

The finely chased bronze handles and escutcheons harmoniously complete the ensemble, enhancing the elegance of the piece without overshadowing its sophisticated cabinetmaking. The original spade-shaped key escutcheons and locks are preserved.

Very good condition, with a beautiful antique patina, well-preserved marquetry, and conservation restorations consistent with the age of the furniture. Traditional polishing enhances the depth and vibrancy of the various wood veneers.
