Louis XVI Style Clock, Circa 1900
Charming Louis XVI-style mantel clock, crafted in pink marble and richly adorned with finely chased gilt bronzes and an elegant bronze subject with brown patina.
The egg-shaped case encloses a circular white enamel dial with delicate painted floral decoration. It is supported by a gilt bronze mount with naturalistic decoration, embellished with two confronting ram heads, linked by stylized branches, a decorative element emblematic of the neoclassical taste.
The top is crowned by a gilt bronze group representing two doves watching over their nest lined with eggs, a symbol of peace, love and fertility. On the side, a graceful putto in brown patina bronze, in an attitude full of movement, seems to support the clock, bringing to the whole a great elegance.
The whole rests on a triangular base in pink marble underlined by a beaded frieze in gilded bronze. The quality of the chasing, the harmony of the materials and the richness of the decoration testify to the skill of Belle Époque bronzeworkers.
