Gilt-Bronze and Polychrome Enamel Jewelry Box – Napoleon III Period, Circa 1880
An elegant rectangular jewelry box crafted from gilt bronze and richly decorated with polychrome enamels in shades of blue, white and black.
The hinged lid and sides are adorned with medallions, stylized floral motifs and delicate foliate designs inspired by the Neo-Renaissance style. A finely beaded border outlines the lid, while a twisted-rope moulding enhances the lower edge of the box.
The ensemble is raised on four finely cast and chased foliate feet. The interior is entirely lined.
The quality of the chasing, brilliance of the gilding and refinement of the enamel decoration reflect fine French craftsmanship from the Napoleon III period, circa 1880.
