Louis XV Period Italian Mirror
An Italian mirror from the Louis XV period.
In the Rocaille style, this gilded wood mirror features a pediment framing a painting of a bucolic subject. The frame has curved lines at the top and is molded with heart-shaped stripes on the inside. The whole is
composed of cockerel crests, C-shaped motifs, florets, foliage and shells. Openwork motif in the center of the lower crosspiece. The gilding is original, weathered and nicely crackled on the jambs (visible by zooming in on the photos lit with artificial light), the red plate is visible. Two missing motifs at the end. Nice original mercury tint, blackened parts. The worn, slightly restored pediment painting reveals a twilight country scene in a wooded landscape, house, paths and figures.
