Lovely alabaster statuette depicting the "Venus Medici", a famous antique marble statue from the 1st century B.C. based on a Greek bronze original, now on display at the Uffizi Museum in Florence.
Venus / Aphrodite is turned to the left in a slight "contrapposto" movement, with Eros and a dolphin at her feet.
Small, high-quality sculpture, typical of 19th-century Italian production, perpetuating the tradition of the Grand Tour.
Very fine patina;almost invisible old reattachment at the neck; presented on a removable square-section base of later period in fine Portor marble.
