Large Art Deco Sculpture "melixo" Signed Max Le Verrier
Rare and important subject in silvered bronze, antique cast, "Melixo" model created and edited by Max Le Verrier in silvered bronze.
This rare sculpture depicts an ancient Egyptian musician in a highly stylized pose, typical of the wave of Egyptomania between the wars.
This is a "large subject" (56.5 cm in total), offering exceptional visual and decorative presence.
A rarity: The silver-plated bronze edition remains a rarity in Max Leverrier's output, unlike the vast majority of prints made in his famous "fonte d'art" (regule), this example is a very rare early edition cast in bronze.
The work rests on its imposing original stepped base in black Portor marble.
Signed "M Le Verrier" on the bronze base.
The work is sold as is.
The surface: Originally in silvered bronze, the sculpture has undergone intensive cleaning in the past (polish type) which removed almost all of the period silvering, of which numerous traces remain see photos.
We have deliberately chosen not to restore this piece before the sale, in order to leave the future buyer complete freedom to choose his craftsman and the desired finish (re-silvering to new, shaded patina, etc.).
As a rough guide, we have a quote of €450 for the custom reworking of the aulos and a complete re-silvering of the piece.
