Visite Pour Robe à Tournure , Chale En Cachemire , 1870-1880 , XIXe , Mantelet , Costume
Ancient & rare ladies' tour made circa 1880-1885 and sold by the Parisian house H. St Vincent de Paul, established at 43 rue du Bac in Paris.
Made in a fabric with rich polychrome paisley decoration on a turquoise blue background, inspired by the famous Oriental shawls then very much in vogue among European high society in the late 19th century.
The large boteh and arabesque motifs, deployed with exceptional decorative richness, testify to the taste for orientalism.
The tour is entirely lined with spectacular multicolored chenille silk frill trim and adorned on the front with four important original passementerie tassels. The interior retains its lining as well as its original woven label reading:
"H. St Vincent de Paul - 43 Rue du Bac, Paris - Nouveautés Françaises & Étrangères".
With its dazzling decoration, luxurious trimmings and excellent visual presence, this tour is a precious testament to Parisian feminine elegance of the 1880s.
