Antique Second Empire Umbrella, In Excellent Condition, France, Circa 1860
A charming mid-19th-century umbrella, whose original lace has been preserved and whose silk canopy has been replaced. It is therefore in perfect condition and can certainly be used today.
The handle is made of finely carved bone, shaped to resemble bamboo.
The parasol features two ingenious mechanisms typical of the period:
- An upper metal ring that allows the canopy to be tilted once open
- A central ring that allows the umbrella to be folded in half, making it easier to store or to access a horse-drawn carriage.
It measures 24,01 inches long when closed and approximately 21,26 inches in diameter when open.
France, circa 1860.
