Archaic Vase With Handles, China, Qing Dynasty, 18th-19th Century.
Bronze vase with archaic decoration. On the sides of the neck are two handles in the shape of stylized zoomorphic creatures (probably dragons or mythical beasts), their heads turned upwards and their bodies curved in an S-shape. The ring around the neck is adorned with a simplified frieze depicting animal masks and geometric scrolls. The decorative band on the belly features an expressive, symmetrical mask of the mythical Taotie monster (characteristic large eyes, horn-like protuberances). The background of the decoration is filled with a dense geometric pattern called Leiwen (cloud and thunder motif, reminiscent of square meanders).
China, Qing dynasty, 18th - 19th century.
Height 30 cm, diameter 12 cm.
Good condition, losses of metal that filled the inlays of the decoration.
