Dance Of The Dryads Around An Oak Tree, Boyvin, 16th Century.
Artist: René Boyvin
La ronde des dryades autour d'un chêne, burin engraving by René Boivin, XVl th century.
This illustrious engraver worked in Fontainebleau and Paris. It was in an issue of Verve that I found a reproduction of this engraving, as well as other more famous ones, such as the masks and headdresses for a ballet...
In fine condition, it is antique-backed with a period annotation (see photo).
An antique Marie Louise has protected the margins, but the lower left corner, unprotected, shows small tears.
The amply treated subject gives this dance a bucolic elegance and the renaissance style of Fontainebleau is masterfully displayed.
Dimension (copper line) approx. 28x40cm.
