A very pretty, typical 19th-century Spa box. This box, adorned with a grisaille painting, offers a rare subject: an antique scene of tombs, a pyramid, and ruins, all surrounded by cypress trees. This evocation of Italy has a romantic charm that was very fashionable in the 19th century. In very fresh condition, the box has a beautiful varnish and has not been restored; one might regret the absence of the four token boxes that should have been inside.
