Modernist Jacaranda Wall Sculpture Signed J. Tenreiro, Brazil, 20th Century

Important modernist jacaranda wall sculpture composed of a vertical assemblage of faceted geometric shapes, creating a particularly elegant sculptural interplay of balance and tension.Signed on the back by J.Tenreiro.

Rendered in precious jacaranda wood with deep, warm veins, this work develops an aesthetic that is at once architectural, minimalist and organic, emblematic of twentieth-century Brazilian modernism.

With its strong graphic impact and airy construction, this sculpture makes a remarkable decorative wall element.
This work is part of the Brazilian modernist design aesthetic of the second half of the twentieth century, where woodworking becomes a veritable sculptural language.

The suspended geometric composition, alternating spikes, inverted pyramids and architectural volumes, creates a dynamic interplay close to constructivist and kinetic research.

Joaquim Tenreiro (1906-1992)

Joaquim Tenreiro was one of the major figures of twentieth-century Brazilian modernism. Born in Portugal into a family of cabinetmakers, he moved to Brazil in the late 1920s, where he revolutionized modern furniture by combining craftsmanship, lightness of form and precious Brazilian essences. Collaborating with architects such as Oscar Niemeyer, he developed a refined sculptural language that has become emblematic of Brazilian design. From the late 1960s onwards, he devoted himself mainly to sculpture and painting, pursuing a formal search between abstraction, balance and the poetry of materials.

The jacaranda, an emblematic essence of high-end Brazilian furniture, here brings exceptional chromatic depth and underlines the sculptural craftsmanship.
