Late 19th Century Tapestry With Hunting Scenes
An elegant Gobelin-style verdure tapestry depicting hunting scenes, this woolen piece is modeled after 18th-century French design. The tapestry is backed on the reverse and features two loops at the top and bottom for threading a metal rod. The tapestry depicts a group of figures dressed in Renaissance-style clothing. Two of them are on horseback, set in a wooded landscape, with a lady and a nobleman holding a falcon. They are accompanied by two elegantly dressed pages, one of whom is holding the hunting dogs. Further up, another horseman is giving chase to a deer. In the background, a castle is visible, typical of the French landscape. The tapestry is surrounded by a floral border featuring roses. This tapestry, notable for its compact size and the elegance of its depiction, is of great taste and refinement, capable of adding a touch of class to any setting. French manufacture from the late 19th century.
