Buddha Shakyamuni Phra Phuttha Chinnarat Gilt Bronze Sculpture Thailand Mid 20th Century

Shakyamuni Buddha Phra Phuttha Chinnarat gilded bronze sculpture Thailand mid-20th

A true gem of religious craftsmanship from Thailand, this Buddha in Shakyamuni posture represents that of Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, an important Thai figure, said to have been erected during the reign of King Mahathammaracha I in the 14th century.

The quality of this gilded bronze is similar to gold leaf. The Buddha is in the posture of Shakyamuni Buddha, with his legs cross-legged, one hand resting palm open and the other resting on his lap.

Situated, this Buddha with a peaceful face is surrounded by a flame-like arch, showing Buddha's wisdom and serenity, even when close to danger. The seal on the back of the base indicates that it was made in Phitsanulok Province in the mid-twentieth century.

The quality of its craftsmanship, patina and weight will make it an ideal sculpture for a collection of bronze Buddhist figures.
