Some lining and restorations visible on verso, white gouache slightly oxidized
Taken from one of the Vatican room decorations. The workmanship and technique show a strong influence/proximity with the works of Gianfrancesco Penni. In particular, the abundant dark wash and the way the eyes are painted in wash stains. See the Battle of Milvius in the Louvre. The very fine paper is prepared in blue, a rarity at the time.
