Baxter etchings are named after their creator. This was one of the first processes enabling multi-color engravings to be made using a combination of relief printing and intaglio. They were very popular in England from around 1830 to 1870.
Another version sold at Christies on September 5, 2008, Christie's interiors, New York, lot n°167, result $250 hammer.
