Probable bas-relief project highly inspired by Antiquity and particularly the so-called Campana plaque. Roman won the Prix de Rome in 1816.
Although less well known today, he was one of France's most important neoclassical sculptors, receiving major commissions under the Restoration. Several of his sculptures can be seen in the Louvre, including Girodet's Portrait and L'Innocence.
Shipment offered and insured in mainland France. Visible and collectable at my stand at the Saint-Ouen flea market.
