19th-century French Center Desk In Louis XVI Style

19th-Century French Center Desk in Louis XVI Style featuring four drawers on the front, one of which has a secret compartment, an internal lockable drawer, original embossed bronze handles, and functional locks and keys. This elegant writing desk in the Louis XVI style is crafted from walnut with boxwood inlay, embellished with a herringbone veneer that creates refined color contrasts thanks to the alternating grain patterns. The interiors are in oak, and the drawers feature hand-carved dovetail joints.

The top is rectangular, covered in warm biscuit beige leather embossed with a gold fretwork pattern along the edges, set within a wooden frame.  It features two side drawers with bronze knobs, two practical pull-out shelves on each side, also covered in leather, which allow the work surface to be extended by 28 cm on each side.

This antique center desk has compact dimensions that make it extremely versatile; it does not need to be placed against a wall, it can be positioned in the middle of a room since the back features the same decorative finish as the front. This elegant antique French piece comes from a private collection in Milan; it is in good condition with old restorations and minimal signs of wear consistent with its 19th-century date.
