Silver chocolatiere, XVIIIᵉ century, Paris, circa 1775
Silver chocolatiere resting on a tripod base with openwork cartouche attachments. The clamshell spout is embellished with fillets and finished with a small ball. Turned-wood, screw-mounted side handle, the lid with scrolled thumb rest. Hammered work.
Paris charge hallmark, 1775-1781.
Letter-date of 1775 and hallmark for works intended for export stamped on the edge of the neck of the chocolatière.
Goldsmith's hallmark: Jacques-Pierre Marteau, active in Paris from 1740 to 1779. Hallmark reproduced p. 203 of Poinçons de Paris, Henry Nocq, 1968 edition.
