Child With A Basket Of Fruit, Attributed To Gaspard Regnier (lyon 1669 - Grenoble 1737)
Child with a basket of fruit
XVIIIth century
Attributed to Gaspard Regnier (Lyon 1669 - Grenoble 1737)
Terracotta
H. 15 cm
Signed: GR. INV.
An 18th-century work depicting a child seated next to a basket filled with fruit, probably plums, about to enjoy a piece. This charming figure is distinguished by a remarkable dynamism of the body, particularly in the inverted legs. The piece is signed on the terrace "GR. INV.", where the letters G and R correspond to the sculptor's initials, while INV stands for "invenit". It can therefore be attributed to Gaspard Regnier (1669-1737), a sculptor from Lyon, known for his pendantives representing the four evangelists for the Saint-Bruno-les-Chartreux church in Lyon.
