18th Century Old Master Drawing French School Late 18th Century Trompe L’oeil Of A “drawing”
French school, late 18th century
Trompe l’oeil of a “drawing” on a wooden background
Pencil, watercolour, on handmade laid paper, 124 x 100 mm
Provenance: private collection, The Netherlands
*
An amusing trompe l’oeil “drawing” of a “tronie” or character head study of an old man wearing a hat, illusionistically “mounted” with red lacquer on a background of wooden planks. The sheet seems to date from around 1780-1800 and could have been made either in France, Germany or Holland, presumably in France.
Very charming drawing in good condition, a few minor folds and small damages normal for the age.
Shipping in Europe: EUR 15
