"Old Windmill in  Bouc Bel-Air"

Oil on cardboard,
Signed lower left,
Titled, dated and countersigned by the artist on the back: "Ancien moulin à vent à Bouc - 19 janvier 1930 - Joseph Milon",
Annotations.

Beautiful, luminous work by painter Joseph Milon depicting the old windmill in Bouc Bel-Air, between Cabriès and Gardanne.
The artist perfectly depicts the arid, colorful vegetation of Provence with its flowering broom. He also paid particular attention to the architectural details of the mill, of which only the remains remain today.

A native of Gordes in the Vaucluse, Jospeh Milon began by studying law, becoming a lawyer and then a solicitor at the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal.
Parallel to his studies, he studied painting with Honoré Gibert, curator of the Musée Granet, and sculpture with Henri Pontier. Around 1910, he relinquished his position to devote himself to art.
He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1923 to 1939 and in the provinces, decorating the Villa Corsica in Aix with paintings and sculptures.
Settled in Aix, he painted the town and its surroundings, rubbing shoulders with local painters such as Louis Gautier, Edouard Ducros, Joseph Hurard and Achille Emperaire.

His works are today notably conserved in various museums such as the Musée Granet in Aix en Provence, Le Musée des beaux-arts de la ville de Cannes and Carpentras.

Dimensions : 24 x 33 cm unframed and 34 x 43 cm with its modern gilded wood frame.
