Beautiful work by the Strasbourg painter Jules Faehnlein which represents a rare view of the historic center of Dinan, more precisely of the rue de l'Apport or the rue des Cordeliers.
We can locate this street thanks to the advertising sign on the wall of the house on the right "DAVY Chapelier". The Rue des Cordelier or de l'Apport suffered a serious accidental fire on February 3 and 4, 1907, destroying 5 houses with porches. Nevertheless, the first two houses with porches visible in the work are still visible today in Dinan.

Our work is a beautiful and rare testimony to the liveliness in the historic center of Dinan at the beginning of the 20th century.

A student of Jean-Jacques Henner and Jean-Léon Gérôme, Jules Faehnlein worked in Paris and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français between 1895 and 1912. He received an honorable mention in 1898.
He specialized in portraits and the representation of interiors: Portrait of a woman, Portrait of the author, Portrait of MH Letocart, Corner of the studio, Interior in Haute-Savoie.
During the 1908 Salon in Toulouse, the painter exhibited several views of Dinan.

Nb: An old small restoration, without impact, is visible on the back of the canvas.

Dimensions: 46.5 x 38.5 cm without frame and 61 x 53 cm with its Louis XVI style gilded wooden frame.
