Louis XVI Clock – Gille l'Ainé In Paris
Charming clock in white marble and gilt bronze depicting a young woman dressed in the antique style, presenting a cage and a putto with a bird carried by a cloud. A second bird stands at the young woman's feet.
Is she trying to lure the birds into the cage or, on the contrary, letting them escape?
We leave the interpretation to the buyer!
The enamel dial with Arabic numerals is signed Gille l'Ainé, Clockmaker to the King in Paris.
The base is adorned with a lovely frieze of finely chased bronze scrolls, a mascaron, flowers, and putti, as well as a row of pearls.
The whole is supported by six toupie feet, also in gilt bronze.
