The word "dinanderie" comesfrom the name of the city of Dinant in Belgium, which, along withLiège, Namur, Huy, and the entire Meuse Valley, was a flourishingcenter for copper and brass work in the Middle Ages. "Dinanderie"then referred to the casting of brass, whereas today it refers to theart of beating metal, primarily copper but also tin, nickel silver,and brass, and shaping it with a hammer.
