Vase with swollen ovoid body, narrowed neck flaring into a characteristiccharacteristic wide flat lip (form related to guanyin ping), resting on an unglazedon an unglazed ring foot.
The body is adorned with an eagle with outstretched wings,rendered in a vigorous, gestural style known as xieyi ("writing of the idea")expressive brushwork.
The bird, depicted in profile, dominates a compositioncomposition of rocks and plum branches, drawn with great economy ofeconomy of means. The line, charged with dark cobalt, contrasts with the milky whitewhite of the glaze.
Blue and white underglaze (qinghua), hand-painted.Typical of workshops in southern China (Guangdong / Fujian).
A cursive character or sign in cobalt blue on the bottom, a workshop or potter's mark.workshop or potter's mark.
Slightly grayish white paste, glossy glaze with a few inclusionssome inclusions and small dots characteristic of an early firing.
Good overall condition. Two chips on the lip (visible on thephotos).
