Pair Of Louis XVI Consoles In Gilded And Carved Wood With Flowered Alabaster Veneered Top
Pair of important Louis XVI consoles in gilded and carved wood with tops veneered with antique floral alabaster.
Central Italy, late 18th century.
Dimensions: 95 x 154.5 x 79 cm.
The wooden frame features elaborate decorative carvings. The legs display a twisted motif, plant ornaments, and a floral ornament set within a distinctive cube-shaped detail, while at the top they are embellished with a bundle of laurel leaves held around the circumference of the leg.
At the four corners of the bands are gilded masks on the front and sunflowers on the back, all finely carved.
The consoles' bands feature intricate carvings of floral and scroll motifs, with a mythological ornament at the center depicting a reclining female figure accompanied by a dog.
The decoration is completed by a finely carved gilded garland of flowers that runs across and extends along the entire lower part of the bands.
Finally, the top, veneered in antique flowered alabaster, a precious stone, lends warmth with its amber and reddish-brown hues that form unique geometric designs.
