Pair of Empire vases, French manufacture, first quarter of the 19th century.
Gilded and patinated bronze, red French marble.
H. cm. 39; diameter cm. 9
The pair of vases, made of patinated bronze, is decorated on the sides with Empire-style masks; an ornamental band, depicting vine leaves and grapes, crosses the center. The base of the handles features two satyr heads: both these and the vine plant are probably a reference to Bacchus, god of drunkenness and wine. The base is carved in red French marble.
