Pair Of Important Louis XVI Vases In Red Levanto Marble
Pair of important Louis XVI vases in red Levanto marble with a porphyry base and finely chiseled gilded bronze decorations.
Origin: France
Period: late 18th century
Measurements: 40 x 20 cm.
The pair of vases features a rounded body embellished with chiseled gilded bronze appliqués: feral heads on all sides, two lion heads on the front and back, and two goat heads under the handles, which together support a chain with pendant tassels, also in chiseled gilded bronze. Completing the decorations are two rows of gilded pearls, at the base of the neck and above the porphyry base, and the upper part of the lid, entirely gilded, consisting of a plant motif. The volute-shaped handles on the sides are decorated with leafy and floral motifs.
The two vases stand out for the fineness of their bronze decorations and the uniqueness of the marble chosen.
The Rosso Levanto marble combines a dark red background with white veins and dark green highlights, creating a particularly striking color contrast.
