Egyptian Rubbed Calcite Alabaster - Middle Kingdom (c. 2000 Bc) - Egyptology
A small funerary and utilitarian vessel, this Egyptian alabaster was used to contain perfumes or scented oils in antiquity. Carved from a single block of local stone, here it's a calcite known as "rubbed", recognizable by its elegant natural veining.
This type of alabaster comes from the Hatnoub quarries in southern Egypt, a region renowned since antiquity for the quality of its stone. The object can be dated to the Middle Kingdom, around 2000 BC, a period marked by notable refinement in funerary production and prestige objects.
The alabaster is in very good condition. It shows only an old restoration to the neck, which is discreet and stable.
It is presented with its original neck.
It is presented with a custom-built plexiglass and brass base, made specifically to showcase this thousand-year-old piece.
Height: 7.5 cm (excluding base)
A beautiful object of Egyptian archaeology, ideal for collectors and lovers of ancient Egyptian art.
