Scholar's Writing Case (suzuribako).gold And Silver Lacquer . Edo Japan.18th Century.
Suzuribako in lacquered wood, decorated with cranes and Minogame under a pine tree and bamboo, the third "friend", the prunus, is missing. It must be suggested somewhere, symbolically or in the form of a rebus that we haven't found or understood. Excellent quality work. Perfectly executed drawings, good-hold lacquer, thick, solid powder coating. A very fine antique work. The decoration represents cranes and Minogame executed in gold and silver powder (now blackened). The silver Kirikane are heavily oxidized. The interior is decorated with fishermen with cormorants. Good condition, no restoration. One damaged corner (see close-up). Exceptional condition for a tercentenary lacquer. A rare suzuribako worthy of inclusion in the finest collections. 245x225x50cm. Japan early 18th or before.
