Mirror, Micomosaic Frame. Italy. Venetian Work From The 19th Century.
Artist: Venise
Table mirror, resting on 2 feet. At the back, a wooden board unfolds to form a third leg to provide a good base for use on a table. Otherwise, folded, can be used as a hanging mirror. Given its small size and that fold-up leg feature, I think this is probably a travel model. What is pleasant about this mirror is that unlike large mirrors of this type, the relationship between mirror and frame is low, in fact the superb decoration of the frame is clearly legible and takes on its full artistic and decorative meaning, the surface the glaze of the mirror is only complementary, happily, unlike large mirrors where it is the opposite, the frame becoming an accessory and the glazed glass the essential becoming vulgar.
This is what makes it an interesting work.
The simple shape and the two small, elegant and discreet feet reinforce this beautiful balance.
