Josef Albers (1888-1976) was one of the most influential abstract painters and art teachers of the 20th century. His artistic career, which spanned from 1922 at the Bauhaus in Weimar to Black Mountain College, and then in the 1950s at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, was primarily focused on the study of the perceptual properties of color and the spatial relationships of forms.
