François Lanfantwas born in Sierck (Moselle, France) in 1814 and died in Le Havre in 1892. His master was Ary Scheffer (1795-1858), the great genre painter of the French Romantic School, in whose studio he worked. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris between 1843 and 1866. The artist is best known for his paintings on the theme of happy, mischievous childhood.
To indicate his origin, François Lanfant followed his name with the words "de Metz"
