Italian sculptor (17th century) - Pair of winged bicaudal sirens.

60 x 45 x h 100 cm each.

Full figures in scagliola.

The two sculptures depict winged bicaudal sirens, bare-breasted, with their faces turned upward, wings spread at their sides, and two fish tails intertwined at the base. The present works are to be understood as preparatory models for villa sculptures, executed in scagliola according to a practice well documented in Italian Baroque decorative production. The modelling, Baroque in conception, renders figures with an upward rhythmic impulse, with a surface treatment that simulates the appearance of stone.

Condition report: The sculptures present some breaks and losses; structural integrity is good overall. Professional restoration carried out.
