19th Rare Tripod-shaped Garden Vase With Caryatids, Parisian Art Foundry
Rare three-legged antimony planter with a green patina, from a Parisian art foundry, second half of the 19th century.
The planter consists of three female figures mounted on a tripod, with their arms raised to support a large circular basin decorated with grotesque masks. Entirely crafted from high-quality antimony, it features an original dark green patina, very similar to that used on Wallace fountains. Inside is a zinc basin that served as the actual planter. The planter was made in three distinct parts: the base and the antimony basin, and the zinc basin.
Among the many small and large foundries that clustered around Paris in the second half of the 19th century, only a few specialized in the production of "regule d'art," or high-quality zamak. Among these were Miroy Frères and the Auguste Houdebine foundry, to name a few.
In good condition, with old restorations and signs of age. Small touch-ups to the original green patina. I can provide additional detailed photos upon request.
