Rare and important Sèvres porcelain sculpture stamped "Sèvres Manufacture Nationale France" followed by the handwritten signature "Marqueste" for Laurent Honoré MARQUESTE (1848-1920). The base is adorned with a relief cartouche titled "GALATHÉE" Very good condition, dimensions: 72 cm high X 20 cm wide. The goddess is nude in a scenic representation like a nymph emerging from the bath, in an elegant posture highlighting the naturalistic treatment of the female body, the undulating forms allow us to appreciate the accuracy of the artist's gaze on the model sculpted in high relief.This is one of the artist's most successful compositions, the original version of similar size in marble is preserved at the Musée d'Orsay.
