Lithograph representing the view of a meridional village signed Defossez and numbered 105/250.
Dimensions 69x58 out of frame.
Framed 90x78cm
Born in Paris in 1932 and starting to paint at the age of fifteen, Alfred Defossez attended the Académie for four years, where his master was Pierre Jérôme. In 1956, he entered the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts to study under Roger Chapelain-Midy, Pierre-Henri Ducos de La Haille and Boris Taslitzky. He was shortlisted for the Prix de la Jeune Peinture in 1957.
Alfred Defossez evokes "summer light" as a major source of inspiration for his work, and in this connection likes to quote Arthur Rimbaud to state his perception of "the countryside traversed by bands of rare music".
He lived at 18, rue des Plantes in the 14th arrondissement of Paris before moving to Seillans (Var), where he still lives.
